December 27, 2020 - Burning Bowl: The Manifestation of Spirit

Native American traditions and ceremonies often incorporate Sacred Fire. Fire is seen to be a gift from the Creator and spirit made manifest. It is deeply honored. Fire can also help us to honor our life experiences, and guide us to release those whose service to us has come to its end. We’ll call upon the presence and symbolism of fire as we offer our annual Burning Bowl service, one in which we create an inner space through which Spirit can partner with us in manifesting all we wish to experience throughout the New Year just ahead.

December 24, 2020 - Christmas Eve: A New World of Hope

Christmas morning is another new day dawning. It is one whose meaning invites us to view it with new and renewed hope. On the eve of this most precious new day soon to arrive, we’ll look at the Christmas Eve story, the impact of Jesus’s birth, and the gift of our own presence that we can offer in many ways to bring greater hope to the world.

December 20, 2020 - Advent Series All is Calm, All is Bright Week #4 - Quiet Treasures

The first thought when hearing the phrase ‘Christmas treasures’ would likely be that of presents being given and received. There are also other kinds of treasures of the season; they are the quiet treasures. They are present and perhaps easy to miss or let slip by. This year, as we bring our Advent series to a close, we’ll set the intention to not only see them, but to joyfully experience and celebrate them.

December 13, 2020 - Advent Series All is Calm, All is Bright Week #3 - A Place at the Table

As joyous as the Christmas season can be, it can also be a time of grief. Holidays can trigger some of those precious memories of loved ones who have passed on from this life. On this Advent week that we turn to Love, we’ll do so with a special remembrance service. It will be an opportunity to honor those who have made lasting impacts on our lives, who always have a place at the table in our hearts, and whose legacies we now carry forward in our lives.

December 6, 2020 - Advent Series All Is Calm, All Is Bright Week #2 - A Domino for Peace

Have you ever watched several hundred dominos, perfectly aligned, such that once one is set into motion the others automatically follow? Peace can be viewed in a similar way. When we view peace as an idea held in the consciousness of humankind, it only takes one person’s awareness of that idea to set into motion the same awareness in hundreds and thousands of others. On this second week of Advent, we’ll look at how we can each become one of these dominos of peace in the world.

November 29, 2020 - Advent Series All Is Calm, All Is Bright Week #1 - Ease Into Christmas

Sometimes it can feel as though the Christmas season arrives too soon; that all of a sudden it’s here without warning. However, the season of Advent is one of preparation, of opening our hearts to the rebirth of the Christ in us. We’ll begin this preparation by calling upon our faith to move through the interplay of dark and light that is not only present in the winter solstice, but also the Christmas story.

November 22, 2020 - Dare to Prosper Series #5: An Abundance of Gratitude

An Indian sage, Nisargadatta, once said, ‘The problem with you is not that you have desires, but that you desire so little. Why not desire it all?’ On this week of Thanksgiving, we’ll look at the connection between abundance and gratitude, and how it can enrich our lives beyond measure.

November 15, 2020 - Guest Speaker, Blake Ringsmuth: Letting Go and Letting God

Guest speaker, Blake Ringsmuth, speaks about letting go and letting God, as the only path to joy.

November 8, 2020 - The Wrong Emotion

Many of us grow up to find ourselves as adults who have learned how to mask our true feelings. We delegitimize them and present ourselves in ways we believe others think we should. There really isn’t a way that we are SUPPOSED to feel. There is only the way we ACTUALLY feel. That is the way we validate our feelings, examine our own reactions to our own lives, and live our absolute and authentic truth.

November 1, 2020 - Fall Series Week #7, Sabbath: A Sabbath Day

As we bring our series to a close, we’ll join together in co-creating an experience of a Sabbath day. Taking into account all that has been offered in the previous weeks, we’ll offer a few of the ritual and ingredients that make a time of Sabbath the holy time that it is. As we depart, we’ll do so with an intention to re-enter our busy lives without hurry or haste, but with ease and delight for all that awaits us.

October 25, 2020 - Fall Series Week #6, Sabbath: Unflinching Uselessness

Author Wayne Muller offers that an astonishing attribute of Sabbath is its ‘unflinching uselessness’. This means that nothing will get done or accomplished. Our to-do lists will not receive any attention or energy. The unflinching, steadfast commitment to stop ‘doing’ is not without its rewards. For what we uncover during this time is that mindfulness reveals what is truly holy; we have conversations with others, or just ourselves, at the deepest of heart levels; and we learn the importance of consecration as it applies to every aspect of our lives.

October 18, 2020 - Fall Series Week #5, Sabbath: Welcome the Unknown

Sabbath is an incubator for wisdom. Using this time to close our eyes to our various responsibilities allows us to listen beneath the surface and hear what is truly ours to do. It guides us to how to be in service to others. It helps us to trust in the unknown, which actually is a way of saying ‘yes’ to all that is possible with God. For in all things, it is not we who do the work, but the Christ in us through which all things are done.

October 11, 2020 - Fall Series Week #4, Sabbath: You Can't Buy Happiness

There is an important distinction to make between desires and happiness. Very often we can allow our desires to have too much power. Power that tells us that we need to work more, try harder, keep striving, and spend more money on those things we long to have. On the other hand, happiness cannot be rushed. It cannot be purchased. It does not ask us to hurry up; it invites us to slow down. For as we do, we begin to see how much we already have, how good it is, and how grateful we are for it all. We see how happiness is not created in the marketplace. It is free, and grown from within.

October 4, 2020 - Fall Series Week #3, Sabbath: Time Is of the Essence

We’ve all likely heard that phrase, ‘time is money’. And so often when we hear conversations about wealth, ‘money’ is the determining factor of its existence. Sabbath allows us to reconsider our view of both. Is how we choose to spend our time primarily in alignment with making money? Or, is it in alignment with a broader definition of wealth? Wealth that also includes things like time to rest and play, time to give undivided attention to our children, to sing or paint or dance or journal? The key is ‘time’ – the time needed to cultivate and nourish them. Time to take deeper measure of our true wealth.

September 27, 2020 - Fall Series Week #2, Sabbath: The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You

Life is filled with rhythmic cycles. Nature reminds us of this so beautifully. We live in the midst of the cycles of the seasons, ocean tides, sunrises and sunsets, periods of growth and times of dormancy – all that happen without force and with perfect timing. Yet, how often do we miss being present to these cycles because we say we’re too busy or there isn’t enough time? Sabbath reminds us that we are a part of these rhythms and cycles, and that we need to take time to witness them, listen to them, learn from them, and recognize our place with them. It is through them that we can create our own rhythms – times to engage and times to detach, times to work and times to rest.

September 20, 2020 - Fall Series Week #1, Sabbath: Putting It All to Rest

All life requires a rhythm of rest. Author Wayne Muller notes that to ‘remember the Sabbath’ is to ‘Remember that everything you have received is a blessing.’ We begin our journey into Sabbath by accepting the invitation to rest. To allow all that is alive in our lives to gently settle into its proper place. We open ourselves to the sacred stillness and begin to feel a renewal of our energy and increased clarity of perception. We become available to insights and blessings that arise only in stillness and time.

September 13, 2020 - Dare to Prosper Series #4: God and Guts

Author Caroline Myss believes that this is an extraordinary time to be alive. It is a time when more and more we are coming into greater understanding of our true, spiritual nature. With the power our true nature holds, we are called to be courageous in times of chaos and challenge . . . to discover our endless capacity for love, compassion, healing, and more.

September 6 - A Celebration of Unity's Annual World Day of Prayer

This year marks the 27th anniversary of Unity’s annual World Day of Prayer. Our prayer chaplains will be leading our service as we embrace this year’s affirming statement: ‘Standing in Truth, I move from fear to faith.’ They will guide in an exploration of the power of faith and the ways in which we can access that power to live our lives from a perspective of seeing beyond troubling circumstances to the spiritual Truth of all things being possible in Spirit.

August 30, 2020 - Seeing Life Through a Spiritual Lens

Author and teacher Eric Butterworth once said, ‘The important key to effective living then is not trying to find the way to set things right, and to straighten people out, and to get the world to stop acting like it does. Not to set things right, but to see them rightly ... As Emerson would say, from the highest possible point of view.’ This week we’ll be taking a look at several ways we can shift our thoughts and strive to live from that higher point of view as we continue to engage with the world around us.

August 23, 2020 - Balancing Civil Rights with Civil Obligations

There have been many movements, engagements, and changes over the last several decades as they pertain to civil rights. And today, we are certainly seeing a significant uprising to continue creating a pathway towards equality for all. One area that perhaps is calling for increased attention is a balance between civil rights and civil obligations, seeing civil obligation as a call to each of us to participate in bringing about change out of concern and commitment for the whole of humanity.

August 16, 2020 - The Simple Life

Life can be complicated and its daily demands on our attention can easily fill our day. Life can also be simple. A simple life is one where prayer, love, and thanksgiving draw us closer to God and into a place of contentment no matter the circumstances. It is one that reminds us that while there is much that we can learn in life, it is much more important and rewarding to learn how to live and to do so from a foundation of spiritual principles that guide us through all that life presents.

August 9, 2020 - Standing in the Gap

Everyone has the power and presence of Spirit within them that can be accessed and called upon at any time. However, we have all likely had experiences in life when our faith was shaky, our strength weakened, or we felt overwhelmed by whatever challenge had come into our lives. Today we’ll take a look at the gift of holding sacred space for another and the power it has to shift a course of events and call others into higher states of spiritual consciousness.

August 2, 2020 - Guest Speaker Kennith Scott:
The Convergence of Science and Spirituality Toward Truth

Unity has been a common thread in Ken's life and his spiritual journey. He'll share some of his personal story, along with what he sees as a convergence of science and spirituality leading us toward the spiritual Truths we all seek. His presentation will also include a guided meditation focused on the scientific model present in each of us.

July 26, 2020 - Dancing With the Shadows

We all have a shadow side, as do our churches and institutions. We tend to ignore it or hide it from others because it has been deemed socially unacceptable to expose it and work with it. Sometimes, we are not even aware of its presence. However, the more we embrace the shadow - our conflicts, our contradictions, and criticisms - the more we grow and spiritually mature. As Jesus said, ‘Take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to take the splinter of your brother’s eye.’ (Matthew 7:5)

July 19, 2020 - Dare to Prosper Series #3: Walking in Wholeness

Success comes as the by-product of a life lived from the inside out, knowing that you are always enough. This inner knowing automatically creates a space in your consciousness to align with new possibilities, reveal new vistas, and overcome any resistance to claiming your greater good.

July 12, 2020 - Champions, Cheerleaders, and Confidantes

Think about all that has taken place in your life to bring you to this moment. The number of experiences and situations that have been a part of your story to date. The people who have been there for you along the way, whether for a day or a lifetime. We take time to honor the champions, cheerleaders, and confidantes who have left an indelible mark upon our soul and their footprints upon our path.

July 5, 2020 - Making Change Your Friend

We all know that change is a constant in life. Some changes are extremely painful; some filled with joy; others are a result of having moved through a difficult period in life. But there are also changes that are more run of the mill. Today we’ll look at the why and how making change our friend can alleviate suffering and anguish and create a more peaceful life.

June 28, 2020 - The Soul Clothed in Honor

As we prepare to celebrate the Independence Day, our freedom is at the forefront of our minds. Freedom is often thought of as the release of a burden, which may in fact be true. However, as we look at the root origin of the word, it means the ‘power of self-determination.’ Today, we’ll take time to remember that our true freedom does not need to be determined by anyone or anything else. It is always our choice.

June 21, 2020 - Spiritual Growth 24/7

In May 2019, the ‘Daily Word Magazine’ offered a quote that said, ‘Your children are here for a larger purpose than you can know.’ On this Father’s Day, we’ll explore this ‘purpose’ not only through the eyes of our children, but also through the lens of all relationships in our lives.

June 14, 2020 - Responsible Hope

Hope is often viewed as something akin to optimism. Or, it is something we immediately offer to another moving through a challenge as a way of saying that everything is going to be ok. We can miss the fact that in the moment, everything is not ok. In a world where challenges are plenty, we’ll look at the perspective offered by practicing ‘responsible hope’ and how it can ease the tension between what we believe to be possible and the realities of life on any given day.

June 7, 2020 - Travel Well and Journey Home

There are many people who love to travel, going to exciting and faraway places or perhaps simply new places much closer to where we live. It has been shown to have very positive impacts on our minds, hearts, and spirits. The good news is that these same benefits can be had without even leaving your home. In fact, ‘home’ is where we often find all that we had been searching for in the first place.

May 31, 2020 - Improving Your Outlook

When speaking in medical terms, we would likely agree that when we hear the term ‘20/20 vision’, we think of ‘perfect’ vision. There is another kind of perfect vision; it’s the kind where we are able to continually improve our overall outlook in life. We don’t hold firm in seeing everything only through rose-colored glasses, nor do we stand just as firm in a view based in doom and gloom. We learn ways in which we can broaden our perspectives and limit the bias of our personal lens and put those ways into practice and action in our lives.

May 24, 2020 - Dare to Prosper Prosperity Series #2: Living the First Principle

Most of us can probably recite the first basic principle of Unity’s teachings. But do we do it as a rote exercise? Or do we do it with an expanded knowledge of what it truly means, how far-reaching it is, and aware of our own understanding of it as we continue to grow and change? Let’s look at all that lies within this powerful principle.

May 10, 2020 - Let It Be, with guest speaker Bob White

Guest speaker Bob White offers a lesson focusing on the effects of, and potential opportunities presented by what we are all going through at the moment. Delving into some the struggles he has been facing in his own life, he shares his thoughts about the spiritual concept of surrender and why it may not be the easiest thing to do. In light of it all, he offers how he sees all that we are currently experiencing as a chance to actually deepen our connection with God, and in turn, create powerful and dramatic changes to how we live our lives.

May 3, 2020 - Volunteer Appreciation Day: The Ultimate Exercise in Democracy

There is a very popular quote that has been attributed to many different people. It states, ‘Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.’ Today we celebrate our annual Volunteer Appreciation Day. We’ll look at some of the ongoing benefits of volunteering and how they’ve contributed to our ministry being a spiritual community that so many have called ‘home’ over the years.

April 26, 2020 - The Dance Floor of the Soul

The labyrinth and its use as a spiritual practice dates back to ancient times and crosses over many diverse religions and spiritual traditions. It is a wonderful way to experience validation for your own particular pathway in life, remaining more present to each moment, and releasing any forms of resistance by moving you more deeply into your heart. It’s a beautiful walk with Spirit that can truly nourish the soul. We’ll explore some of the history and special meanings of different elements of a labyrinth as we look ahead to celebrating World Labyrinth Day on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

April 19, 2020 - Ho'Oponopono for Earth Day

We celebrate Earth Day by taking to heart the many ways in which the earth has been harmed by human conduct. As with any realization of actions we wish we could erase, forgiveness is an antidote that helps release the mistakes and move us into more loving and compassionate ways of being. We use the Hawaiian tradition of Ho’Oponopono, a practice that means, ‘set things right’, to direct some love and healing energy to our beloved Mother Earth.

April 12, 2020 - Easter Sunday: Awakening to New Life

Franciscan priest Richard Rohr wrote, ‘Death and life are two sides of the same coin; you cannot have one without the other. Each time you surrender, each time you trust the dying, your faith is led to a deeper level and you discover a Larger Self underneath.’ (Richard Rohr’s Daily Meditation, 4/26/19). That ‘Larger Self’ is indicative of our connecting to the Christ presence in us on a daily basis. On this Easter Sunday, we will celebrate the ways in which the historical story of the resurrection continues to guide us today as we move through the processes of loss and renewal that we experience throughout our lives, awakening more deeply each time to something larger than ourselves at work.

April 5, 2020 - Palm Sunday: Staying on Purpose

At some point in our lives, we all likely feel drawn into an unknown of some kind. It feels exciting, but fears can arise or we may worry about what others may think. Yet, intuitively we know that we must take the first step forward. We cannot deny the certainty with which we hear and feel that inner call to live our purpose, and to do so without any further hesitation. The story of Holy Week is one in which Jesus provided the example as to how to look beyond the fears and the naysayers. He showed us how to bring forth our faith and step into a much greater life meant for all of us.

March 29, 2020 - The I of the Storm Series #7: Your Pathway to Peace

Everyone has the same purpose - it is to express your true Christ nature. It is to 'be the way of God' in this world. As you do this, you take responsibility for the energy you bring to the planet and thereby become a blessing for all.

March 22, 2020 - The I of the Storm Series #6: Let Go, Let God

Defensiveness blocks us from learning more about ourselves and growing into more of who we are here to be. As we let go of defensiveness and practice surrender (nonresistance) instead, we find ourselves opening more fully to Spirit and are guided with greater ease to make a greater difference in the world. Today, we apply this teaching to that which we are experiencing in the midst of COVID-19.

March 15, 2020 - The I of the Storm Series #5: See It Right - Not Make It Right

Conflict often emerges because people hold different perspectives. When we shift to a higher perspective – a spiritual perspective – it moves us beyond the conflict. It enables us to see new and broader perspectives through eyes of love and to act from a foundation of faith.

March 8, 2020 - The I of the Storm Series #4: You Are Not Alone

Because many of us were not validated for being our authentic selves as children, we learned it wasn’t always safe to be fully present and show up as ourselves. As a result, we began to believe in separation. We also began to judge ourselves based on outer circumstances. Through God, we realize our oneness with all creation and we live in a state of communion.

March 1, 2020 - The I of the Storm Series #3: Love Your Enemies

The belief that someone or something is against you is what Jesus called 'the enemy'. As you take authentic action toward your 'enemies', bringing forth forgiveness and understanding, you shift and heal the energy of your relationships.

February 23, 2020 – The I of the Storm Series #2: Embrace the Tiger

Every single conflict in life is one that presents an opportunity for growth. As you embrace the conflict, in lieu of resisting it, you further your soul’s purpose and expand your capacity to make a difference in the world.

February 16, 2020 - The I of the Storm Series #1: Nothing and No One is Against You

Our series begins with its essential theme: Nothing and no one is against you. When you move to your center of wholeness, you realize that the Universe is for you. Throughout the series, you will learn ways to find your way back to the ‘I’ of the storm, to your center of wholeness in the midst of whatever conflict you encounter.

February 9, 2020 - Spiritual Master Series #5: A Life of Self-Love, with Thich Nhat Hanh

While Thich Nhat Hanh has published over 100 books during his life, a consistent message runs throughout them all: love and acceptance. We'll take his teachings to a very personal level, that of self-love, and see why it is such an important quality to practice in our lives each day.

February 2, 2020 - Spiritual Master Series #4: A Life of Possibility, with Charles Fillmore

Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore always knew that God is the infinite abundant source of our supply. He believed that all we have to do is to harness that energy with our thoughts and words. He believed in the infinite, unlimited possibility in every moment. His legacy urges us to do the same today.

January 26, 2020 - Spiritual Master Series #3: A Life of Discipline, with Mahatma Gandhi

Fearful as a child, challenged with his school studies, discriminated against and beaten as an adult – Mahatma Gandhi still found the discipline to live a life of non-violence, be a leading activist for social justice, and offer an entire life of service grounded in the teaching of love. He was a true master, always the student. This is a call that we, too, can answer in our own unique ways.

January 19, 2020 - Spiritual Master Series #2: A Life of Courage, with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The answer is peace. What is the question? Through several lenses we can identify the commonalities in our religious beliefs, linguistic histories and varied cultural backgrounds. This dive into where and why our differences evolved may shed light onto our path to oneness again.

January 12, 2020 - Spiritual Master Series #1/Dare to Prosper Series #1: A Life of Prosperity, with Eric Butterworth

This year our prosperity series is all about letting go of any hesitation in declaring, affirming, and claiming abundance in our lives. Let’s look at one of the spiritual masters of prosperity, Unity minister and author Eric Butterworth. Never one to mince words, we’ll look at some highlights from Butterworth’s book, ‘Spiritual Economics’.

January 5, 2020 - White Stone Service: D.A.R.E. to Make a Difference

We kick off 2020 with our White Stone service and introduce our theme for this year. Using the White Stone ritual, we’ll uncover that special word or phrase that will be our personal guiding light as we Dare to Make A Difference through this new year.
